Freedom Hill was abuzz and ready to release some heavy metal riff Thursday night at the Michigan Lottery Ampitheatre. “War Pigs” and the “Invincible Shield Tour Anthem” rang through the crowd before Judas Priest emerged from behind the curtain kicking the night off with tracks “Panic Attack” and “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin.” Rob Halford, decked out in his trademark leather and studs, Halford took control and never looked back and the heavy metal rockers in attendance didn’t care one bit. Guitarist Richie Faulkner delivered his crushing riffs and blistering solos with precision and aggression. Songs like “Breaking the Law” and “Love Bites” had the entire venue singing along, with fists in the air waving them like they just don’t care. Ian Hill’s legendary bass kept the energy at high levels throughout the night.

The stage production was a visual spectacle, complete with laser light show, Halford’s signature motorcycle entrance and costume changes added that Judas Priest trademark heavy metal flair we all come to love. The band ended their 18-song set with banging hits like a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)” and the highlight track of the night “Painkiller,” which left the crowd screaming for more. The encore began with “The Hellion” making their way back onto the stage, ripping into “Electric Eye.” The encore included “Hell Bent for Leather” and one electric finale of “Living After Midnight.” The 2-hour and 45-minute set was a total banger and can only be mastered by the metal gods themselves Judas Priest.

Also, on tour in direct support the Swedish metal band Sabaton kicked off the night with a face melter of a set that definitely made you feel hit the next morning. Sabaton is a must-see band with some killer stage visuals, along with high energy and filled with some ass kicking guitar shreds. Stay young America keep rocking!
