It’s been 12 years since Creed stepped foot on stage in Detroit rock city. That all changed when the band announced their 40-city tour with a stop at Pine knob music theatre. Thursday night in Michigan was already sizzling and no one knew they were about to get blistered. The “Summer of 99 Tour” with special guests 3 Doors Down along with Finger Eleven is happening now. Opening the night up Canadian rockers Finger Eleven hit the pine knob stage for the first time opening with “Above” off the band debut album TIP in 1997 closing the set with a ripper cut titled “Paralyzer.” The half hour set was packed with energy especially from guitarist Rick Jackeet who plays his guitar like it’s on fire and has been known to toss his guitar into the crowd.
Up next the Mississippi rockers 3 Doors down ready to rip through a collection of rock classics we all come to love. The 13-song set kicked off with “Train” and “It’s Not My Time” before 3DD classic cut “Loser.” Brad Arnold was in his usual energetic in your face type mood, rhythm guitar player Chet Roberts beating on his guitar like mad man and that was totally fine with the pine knob crowd.
The set included both sing-alongs “Kryptonite” and ending with “When I’m Gone” 3 Doors Down will be back in town on Nov. 20 at Little Caesars Arena. For more on this show please click here.
The 12-year wait was finally over at 9:15 p.m. Creed and Scott Stapp take the stage greeted by ear piercing sounds. Stapp last on stage comes out and starts to walk in a circle like a possessed mad opening up with “Bullets” a heavy track filled with guitar shreds and blazing with some high octane. Scott Stapp was looking better than ever, filled with more energy than your local electric company. Pacing back and forth across the stage Stapp voice could be heard miles away. Stapp was back and more Rockstar than ever. The energy level picked up with “Torn” and “Are You Ready.” The one-hour and 40-minute set sure didn’t sound like a 12 year absent that’s for sure. The stage was setup was pretty cool with a giant 5 panel screen complete with the usual smoke jetting into the air accompanied by flames shooting out behind drummer Scott Philips. The crowd got into it early with the 1997 track “My Own Prison” The pine knob crowd displaying the same energy Creed delivered.
Mark Tremonti played like he always does with his amp cranked on high. Tremonti who grew up in Grosse Pointe about 40 minutes from Pine knob made mention he was proud to be born in here. Cell phones lights lit up the night ski during “Faceless Man” Epic highlights from the night came at you like a one-two punch Creed Classic “With Arms Wide Open” and “Higher” before ending a memorable night with “One last Breath” and “My Sacrifice” Stapp told the sold-out crowd we will see you again very soon Michigan. Creed will be back in town in November on the 20th with special guests 3 Doors Down and Mammoth Van Halen. For more on this event please click here.
