The Red Rocker Sammy Hagar and his band, the circle, performed live at the Fillmore in downtown Detroit last night celebrating the launch of his new Mexican-Lager style beer brewed right here in Corktown. The Red Rocker Lager was proudly on display last night and the sold-out Fillmore could not get enough of the beer. Tonight, “We drink Beer” let’s party and have a good time. The Lager beer was proudly displayed on stage, Sammy sharing beer with bass player Michael Anthony making note while passing it over “you must have had ten of these before you came out. Drummer Jason Bonham was also thirsty tipping a cold one back all while playing drums and not missing a single beat, can you say “Rockstar.”
The 16-song set was a total banger lasting over an hour and forty minutes. Kicking the night off with a one two punch, a Van Halen cover “Good Enough” followed by “Pound Cake” it’s not like the packed house needed any more of a reason to get all lathered up, but they got it. Our neighbors across the Detroit River and from all around the great lakes state are probably still recovering from the memorable show that will be ranked at the top as one of the all-time shows played at the historic venue and there have been some dandy ones. Hagar followed with the classic “There’s Only One Way To Rock” to complete the trifecta, good lord we only just begun. The party was in full swing, buckle ups kids we are going for a ride.
Sammy Hagar was clearly having a good time hoisting beer make a cheer to the crowd, to drinking Tequila, and even wearing the iconic Detroit Red Wings jersey, number nineteen Steve Yzerman. The setlist was all the classic hits we grown to love from Montrose to Van Halen, to Led Zeppelin. Hagar continued to show his love to the fans signing some license plate that read 5150 passed from the crowd to signing pictures and whatever the crowd had on them. At one point Hagar spotted a gentleman in the crowd wearing a shirt that read “I shaved my balls for this” Sammy with a smile went on over to him to get a photo. Sammy Hagar also brought the Red Rocker CEO Eric Schubert and his son, master brewer on stage to take a bow.
Some highlights from the evening that had the Fillmore jumping from top to bottom came when Hagar broke out with a classic Montrose song “Rock Candy” and one of many Hagar classic Mas Tequila” holy hell the goosebumps. Michael Anthony took lead vocals on “Ain’t Talkin ’bout Love” (shouting “This one’s for you Eddie!”) the chills were real and quite heavy with emotions. Ending the night with encores “I Cant Drive 55” and “When it’s Love” was a killer way to end a banger of a night or was it. Sammy ended the night with this a promise that the band will be back next summer at Pine Knob, folks in Canada heard the thunderous from after that. Now that’s how you in the night.
