Highly recognized for her genre-bending sound, fusing punk, metal and alternative seamlessly, Rico Nasty is taking it back to the basics on her new album RX out July 24 produced by Kenneth Blume (formerly KennyBeats). Recorded between filming her AppleTV+ debut on Margot’s Got Money Troubles – starring alongside Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Nicole Kidman, Nick Offerman, Lindsey Normington – and her 2025 Fall tour, Rico found herself striving to craft an album that reminded fans of why they fell in love with her in the first place.
Without overthinking it, she re-connected with Blume, hoping to capture that boastful energy heard on their Anger Management mixtape in 2019 and her punk-rap fused hit “SMACK A BITCH” from debut album Nightmare Vacation in 2020. “I missed someone that was honest with me,” Rico notes. “And I missed someone who knew me back then, before I had any success. I felt like if I’m going to get back to doing me, I should go back to someone who can be real with me, somebody who’s not too serious or draining.”
The songs emerged from four months of sessions, resulting in vintage Rico Nasty: dynamic, fierce, and funny. The undeniable chemistry between her and Blume remains as strong as ever with Dylan Brady (100 Gecs) also contributing to the record and producing “Kiss N Makeup.”
“From the day we met, no one has made me laugh harder or pushed me further out of my comfort zone,” Blume says of the album. “RX feels like homecoming. This project is a reminder of where she came from, what made us all fans; and a scary look at how much better she KEEPS getting.”
Along with the announcement, Rico shares another taste from RX, with “Cupcake,” a bubbly trap song that reflects her sugar trap sound and a video directed by Miggy.
“Cupcake” follows “Rituals” in early June with support from Rolling Stone, Stereogum, Alternative Press, Hypebeast, HotNewHipHop, GENIUS, The FADER and Consequence, noting “the song is a masterclass in enticing discomfort, thanks to its driving, yet unpredictable, deconstructed bass and Rico’s effortless flows…preparing us for the next phase of her electrifying career.”
The LETHAL-ER deluxe release in December, included five new songs: “PEARLS”, “PRETEA”, “BLACK LACE”, “STUNNA” and “PEPPER” – which was produced by Blume, hinting of their plans to join forces once again. LETHAL was executive produced by GRAMMY nominated producer Imad Royal and featured all the hallmarks of a Rico Nasty record – female rage, heavy guitars, humor, femininity, introspection and a more complex framing of all the angles of Rico. The album was praised by Billboard, Variety, Paste Magazine, Consequence, BET, Brooklyn Vegan and a stunning raw set for NPR’s Tiny Desk along with a performance of the buoyant and radiant “CRASH” for Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
In August, Rico will perform at Chreece Festival in Indianapolis and in September, she will head on tour supporting Hayley Williams through mid October – get your tickets HERE.
The tour will be making a stop in Michigan on Sep 19, 2026 at Pine Knob Music Theatre. For more on this show click here.
